Romantic Wedding: Universal Language of Love

He grew up in California, she grew up in Finland (just outside of Helsinki), and the realm of online dating ultimately united their worlds. Evi and Michael both love their Portland home, and a wedding here seemed the perfect excuse to lure in friends and family from all over the world. Their courtyard ceremony began at 6 p.m. and included about 60 guests, gathered folks from as far away as Finland, the U.K. and Hawaii. In following Scandinavian tradition, the pair walked down the aisle together. Afterward, the couple agreed that the low-key, international celebration was exactly what that had hoped for (and more!), with the weather cooperating perfectly and everything at the venue running exactly as planned. Evi and Michael joyfully concluded, “It was nice to be free from most wedding traditions and celebrate a wedding our way.”

Memorable Details

Both the ceremony and cocktail reception took place on the deck, where a "simple and neutral" decor included flowers (with an old-school garden theme) and a palette of tan, white, chartreuse and cobalt blue.

The "very informal" ceremony involved a short toast thanking everyone, the cutting of the cake and a beautifully simple evening of "good appetizers, drinks and socializing."

For reception background music, the duo compiled an eclectic mix that included Duran Duran, Arctic Monkeys, Josh Rouse, Death Cab for Cutie and Wilco.

After sleeping in the hotel’s Honeymoon Suite, the couple took off for a mini-moon in Newport (with a Barbados trip to follow many months later!).
